Quite literally, this crazy, seemingly impossible journey started a couple of weeks ago after waking from one of my short naps, with a very clear picture of what I needed to do.
Since the day of that dream, I’ve put a lot of thought into what needs to happen, and it has gone from a ride across the country, to what can potentially be a charitable, record-breaking journey, that will surely test every ounce of my being.
The idea was to get on my bike, and start riding. I was thinking along the lines of Forrest Gump, but then I started really thinking about my hair brained idea. I figured if I was going to do this, I should do it big, after all, most of my life has been lived this way. So a dream started to become an idea, and that idea started to grow inside of my head like a tree. It’s so firmly rooted in my head now, that there’s nothing that could chop it down.
Here are the basics:
• Ride. Very far. Roughly 11,000 miles.
• Raise money for the PKD foundation.
• Educate people about Polycystic Kidney Disease.
• See the United States the best way I know how – by bicycle!
This is no small feat. I’ve never attempted a ride like this before, and all the training I’ve done, and all the training I’m going to do, will never prepare me for what lies ahead of me.
I hope you enjoy my journey as much as I do.
I’ll see you on the road!
